Echoes of Iakovos: A Celebration of the Life & Legacy of America’s Archbishop

Brookline, MA – Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology commemorated the 17th anniversary of the falling asleep of Archbishop Iakovos. The melodic chanting of the students of the School that Archbishop Iakovos so loved led the memorial prayers for the eternal repose of his soul. The day began with divine services at the Holy Cross Chapel, followed by a memorial service offered at the grave of the ever-to-be remembered Archbishop, with His Grace Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzos presiding. 
 
The community then gathered at its Malioits Cultural Center for a reception. The event began with the blessings and greetings of His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America which were conveyed by Bishop Athenagoras.  His Grace Bishop Joachim of Amissos presented a keynote on the Life and Legacy of Archbishop Iakovos. He particularly highlighted Archbishop Iakovos dedication to the building of the School’s significant library. Following the keynote, Dr. Lewis Patsavos, Professor of Canon Law Emeritus, and a close friend of Archbishop Iakovos shared his fond memories and experiences of the Archbishop as his pastor when he was a young man. Dr. Patsavos shared details about the ministry that the Archbishop offered when he was the Dean of the Annunciation Cathedral in Boston which moved all in attendance.  
 
In closing, President Cantonis shared a story about his very personal family connections to the legendary Archbishop and noted how proud he was that the community honored the memory of Archbishop Iakovos keeping the vigil lamp of his memory alive both practically and spiritually.
