ARGYROKASTRO. As part of its international outreach and collaborations, the Maliotis Cultural Center made a strong presence at the 6th Junior Summer Conference, on the theme “Language and Artificial Intelligence.” The conference was organized by the Alumni Association of the International Summer University, in collaboration with the University of Ioannina and the Department of Greek Studies of the University of Gjirokastër in Albania, gathering significant participation from professors, researchers, students, and cultural figures.
The Executive Director of the Maliotis Cultural Center, Chrysoula Kourkounti, had the honor of participating in the proceedings of the conference and offering greetings at the opening session. In her remarks, she highlighted the importance of the conference’s theme, emphasizing that the encounter between language and Artificial Intelligence raises critical questions for the future of education and cultural identity:
• How does technology shape human language?
• Can Artificial Intelligence serve as an educational tool without replacing the human experience of expression?
• How do we teach Greek today, and how can we safeguard the language in the digital environment?
Referring to the conference program, Mrs. Kourkounti praised the breadth and quality of the topics covered—from innovative teaching practices and the use of AI in education, to discourse analysis, linguistic diversity, and the intersections of artificial intelligence with journalism, creative writing, ethics, and law.
“The connection of language with science and cultural identity is not merely a theoretical matter,” she underlined. “It constitutes an existential necessity for communities that strive to preserve their self-awareness in a world of constant transformations and digital complexity. At the Maliotis Cultural Center, we are committed to supporting initiatives such as yours, which bring together the new generation, academic research, education, and the Greek spirit.”
The presence in historic ArgyroKastro, with its vibrant Greek-speaking community, further highlighted the importance of collaboration in promoting the Greek language and strengthened the mission of the Maliotis Cultural Center in the field of cultural interconnection and education.
The Maliotis Cultural Center expressed warm thanks to Dean Dr. Nikoletta Tsitsanoudi-Mallidi, founder of the International Summer University and scientific director of the Junior Summer program, as well as to the Rector of the University of Ioannina, Dr. Anna Batistatou.
