All Sides of the Parthenon

Photography Exhibition by Peter Yalanis
Commissioned by “the American Committee for the Reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures,” ”All Sides of the Parthenon, A Touring Exhibition”

An exhibition of historic photographs

In Fall 2023 the Maliotis Cultural Center at HCHC opened “All Sides of the Parthenon” with photography by Peter Yalanis. Beginning at 7:00 p.m., there was a presentation by the photographer Peter Yalanis and Attorney Michael Reppas of the American Committee for the Reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures, followed by a light reception.

“All Sides of the Parthenon” and “Ancient Olympia, A Panoramic Odyssey” are educational and historical exhibits that include numerous unique photographs as well as lectures by photographer Peter Costas Yalanis and, for the Parthenon Exhibit, American Committee for the Reunification of the Parthenon Sculptures international president, Attorney Michael J. Reppas.

Each exhibit was photographed and documented with the cooperation and approvals of either the Greek National Tourism Organization in New York City or the Greek Ministry of Culture in Athens

I was able  to display 15 of my most unique and representative photos taken from within and atop (thank you scaffolding) the Parthenon, many by standing on original Pentelic Marble, 60’ above the its floor. I still get goosebumps recalling those perspectives of Athens.
Responsible for obtaining permissions from the Greek Ministry of Culture, Attorney Michael J. Reppas, president of the ACRPS and I took turns from the podium as well as casually strolling among the comfortably seated audience, explaining and describingan incredible, indelible photo assignment week, that produced these exclusive photos, recently produced on aluminum.
Atty. Reppas and I covered as much of the Reunification Campaign as possible, addressing its critical and timely elements from the aesthetic, historical. cultural, legal, ethical and political viewpoints.
The audience, true Philhellenes, reacted empathetically to our casual and factual talks about recovery of the sculptures and what it will take to return them from the British Museum to the new Acropolis Museum in Athens.
I speak for Atty. Reppas and myself in describing the entire evening as an extremely enjoyable opportunity to present our passionate mission of repatriation. Its timeliness is now more encouraging than ever before.
Thank you Maliotis Cultural Center, for allowing me to present my exhibit and thank you to all of those who attended and joined us in the spirit of unity and action. If you have not yet been to this magnificent, newly designed venue, make a point to schedule a time to attend one or more of its amazing presentations. It promises to be almost as fulfilling as a trip to Greece itself. “
