The Mount Athos Foundation of America (MAFA) and the Mount Athos Center of Thessaloniki (Αγιορειτική Εστία) are pleased to announce an exhibition, Mount Athos: The Ark of Orthodoxy, intended to evoke for American viewers the sense of a virtual pilgrimage to the monasteries of the Holy Mountain. This exhibition, currently on display at the Maliotis Center in Brookline, Massachusetts until the end of November, features one panel for each of the 20 Athonite monasteries tracing their history and traditions, plus additional panels pertaining to life on the Holy Mountain.
The Exhibition opened with a celebratory event on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. The theme of the celebration was Reflections on a Day on Mount Athos. The agenda included speeches by Archbishop Elpidophoros, a visiting Athonite monk, the mother of an Athonite monk, a seminarian who recently visited the Holy Mountain, and various scholars. A banquet was accompanied by an exclusive showing of a recently discovered 1929 Athos Documentary Film, followed by a discussion on this pictorial record of life and architecture of the ancient Athonite monasteries.
